Roxette Singer Dead at 61

193rd "Wetten, Dass..?" Game and Entertainment Television Series in Halle on February 12, 2011

Following a 17-year battle with cancer, Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson has died at 61 years old.

She was first diagnosed following the discovery of a brain tumor in 2002 that caused a seizure. The aggressive treatments took a toll on Marie over the years, but she still found opportunities to be on the stage. In the photo (left), she is seen performing on German TV show Wetten, Dass..? in 2011.

Fredriksson was born May 28, 1958, in Ossjo, Sweden. After graduating from music school in 1977, she started a punk rock band with her then-boyfriend. Per Gessle was a member of this band very briefly. It was that work together, however, that led to Gessle inviting Fredriksson to join her new band, Roxette.

The duo earned nine top 40  hits, four of which went #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music videos on this page are Roxette’s #1 hits.

All of us at 101.5 K-Hits send our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Marie Fredrikkson.
