Quick Self-Care You Can Do At Your Desk

It’s been a stressful few months, which is why practicing self-care is more important than ever. There are all kinds of ways to do it, and some forms of self-care can be done right from your workspace when you need a mental health break. Next time you need to take five from work, try one of these quick and easy ways to treat yourself to some self-care without leaving your desk.

  • Wind down with a five-minute meditation – Meditation can improve mental and physical health and there are lots of studies that back that up, but we still struggle with making it a priority. So try giving mindfulness a quick five minutes to shake off any negative thoughts you’re dealing with so you can get back to what you need to do.
  • Turn off your digital devices so you can focus – Screen fatigue can be a big problem and working from home may be making it worse. So try setting aside a 15-minute window everyday where you turn off your screens and focus on tangible tasks, like writing out to-dos, while you make a real effort to relax the tension in your shoulders and temples.
  • Practice workplace gratitude and celebrate your accomplishments – It’s important to recognize your accomplishments and milestones and give yourself a pat on the back when you deserve it. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to take time to be thankful for the people, systems, and circumstances that keep you going at work.
  • Text your family and friends – Reaching out to your support system and loved ones can give you a boost, so take a break from work and check in. Making contact with them can lift your spirits, satisfy your need for socialization and it may even make you more productive at work.
