The South Fork Bakery in Long Island, New York is known for their sweets and for hiring adults with disabilities. Shirley Ruch is a speech and language pathologist who founded it to help provide meaningful employment opportunities for people with special needs. She says she came up with the bakery idea since she always uses cooking and baking in her therapy practice because “it’s great for socialization and following directions.”

A dog was so desperate to get back to her home and family that she walked for two weeks to get there. The golden retriever had been left with a friend while her family renovated their house, but she ran away. She was found walking near her old home – 62 miles away – and has since been reunited with her owners.
